I spent Saturday in a bit of a whirlwind and never had a chance to post. I had a bad day, food-wise, but mostly that was due to the stress of having to work meetings all morning and then run to the airport for an all-afternoon/evening flight to California after that. Travelling is stressful –particuarly when I’m not with Devin, who usually smooths out all of the rough edges. (Fighting with the guy at the Hertz counter -who tried to DOUBLE my guaranteed rate– is not my forte).
Nevertheless, I made it safely to my cousin-in-laws and immediately began feeling better. No ice. No cold. No sleet. No barren winter vistas. Just a cool breeze off the Pacific making the green branches of the trees sway gently in the night sky.
Today the gods smiled upon me. The weather forecast was truly dire, but things held off very nicely. So I had time for a spectacular 12 mile run through the hills and valleys around Laguna Niguel while the sun was still shining and the air was warm and fresh. I felt renewed and alive and happy.
Just as when I was running through Central Park at Christmas, I could feel an ebullient happiness simply welling up within me, unbidden. Over and over again I shouted at the sky and the sidewalks and the trees, “THIS IS BEAUTIFUL” and “AMAZING” and “I LOVE IT HERE!”
Now I’m ready for the rain. It’s supposed to be a long, drenching, multi-day storm. Fine with me. Just so long as it’s not cold and snowing and miserable.
I’m beginning to see that part of reason behind my out-of-control eating days must have something to do with being cold and unhappy in the dark gloom of winter.
Maybe I just need to buy a brighter lamp when I get home. Couldn’t hurt.

You really do look pale, gotta say. The sunshine lamp is a really good idea.

I’m so glad you’re getting a break - you needed and deserved it. When you get back, don’t just buy ANY bright lamp. Buy one of the ones that’s designed to mimic the spectrum of full sunlight, for the benefit of those who suffer from SAD (which has to be the best acronym ever!). It may well help, and it can’t possibly hurt!
